Sawtooth stripping
There are two kinds of fibers with different characteristics growing on the epidermis of cotton seeds. One type of fiber is thin and long, with natural twists. The length is generally more than 16mm. It is separated from cotton seeds through the ginning process and then gathered together, which is called lint. One is short and dense fibers and fluff, which cover the surface of cotton seeds and are not easy to fall off. These short fibers and fluff (6 to 16 mm are short fibers, and those below 6 mm are fluff) are collectively called cotton linters.
Cotton linters are important raw materials for the production of cloth, chemical fiber, chemical industry and military industry.
Cotton linters are composed of three parts: First, fibers from cotton lint (about 0.2kg attached to every 50kg of cotton), that is, the fibers remaining on the cotton after ginning, with a hand-pulled length of more than 13mm Fibers are generally first down (a type of velvet); the second is fibers that are broken during the finishing process of cotton; the third is a layer of short and dense fibers and fluff that naturally grows and develops on the surface of cotton, with a length of Below 12mm, generally second- and third-grade velvet are also called second-grade velvet and third-grade velvet. These two types of velvet are the main components of cotton linters, accounting for approximately 90% of the total velvet yield.
Our country is a large cotton-producing country with very rich cotton linters. If all the cotton seeds after ginning are stripped, the cotton linters produced will be equivalent to about 15% of the total lint production. Carrying out cotton stripping can make full use of short staple fiber resources, improve the quality of seed cotton and the oil yield of commercial cotton, increase the revenue of ginners, and improve economic benefits. In addition, cotton linters are also an important material for exporting and earning foreign exchange. With the advancement of industrial production and science and technology, cotton linters are used more and more widely, and its position in the national economy is becoming increasingly important.
