The weather is getting warmer and it’s cotton planting season again. On April 1, in a high-standard cotton field in Qiongkul Aiken Village, Sanhe Town, Awati County, a NTU powerful Beidou navigation driverless tractor was conducting precision sowing, and the scene was very spectacular.
Last year, the village adopted the new water-saving seeding technology of “dry sowing and wet seeding” to try out 4,000 acres of cotton, saving 240 cubic meters of water per mu. This year, Awati County will continue to promote “dry sowing and wet seeding” in the village on 8,000 acres, and strives to promote it on more than 100,000 acres throughout the county.
Wang Tongren, director of the Agricultural Technology Extension Center of the Awati County Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau, said that the biggest advantage of the new water-saving sowing technology of cotton is “dry sowing and wet sowing”. After the land is leveled, sowing can be carried out. Water dripping from the drip irrigation belt is used to induce moisture to promote early emergence of seedlings, which not only saves water for spring irrigation, but also achieves the growth goal of uniform, strong and even cotton seedlings. In addition, the new water-saving sowing technology of “dry sowing and wet planting” can also reduce the secondary pollution of soil salinity and alkali, greatly improve the cotton seedling emergence rate, and achieve the purpose of increasing production.
From the cotton “dry sowing and wet planting” on-site meeting held in the Aksu region, we learned that this year the region plans to adopt “dry sowing and wet planting” in each cotton-growing county. “The new water-saving seeding technology has sown 350,000 acres of cotton. It has taken the lead in promoting this technology among large cotton growers, farmers’ professional cooperatives and cotton enterprises, and has learned from the experience gained and successively promoted it on a large scale to benefit more cotton farmers. </p
