Since April, Korla City in Xinjiang has continued to have fine weather. Sand and dust weather only occurred on the 16th, which had a very limited impact on cotton fields. At present, the local spring sowing work is nearing completion. Except for some spring irrigation cotton fields that have not been sown, the remaining cotton fields have basically been sown.
Cotton seedling management is mainly to ensure that the cotton seedlings can grow evenly. This year’s cotton seedling rate in Korla City is higher than last year. Only a few cotton fields with dry sowing and wet sowing have uneven seedling emergence due to insufficient soil moisture. At present, cotton farmers are dripping water appropriately in the fields to replenish moisture to make up for the uneven emergence of seedlings.
Due to the large temperature difference between day and night in the area and the low ground temperature, cotton farmers actively carry out cultivating to increase the ground temperature while also eliminating weeds on the ground and increasing soil aeration. Local cotton farmers said that cotton fields in Korla City are usually cultivated twice, and it is expected that cotton fields that are dripping water to promote seedlings will be cultivated again in the near future.
