It’s spring silkworm season again. On the morning of April 27, Wujiang, Suzhou distributed a total of 3,985 spring silkworm seeds to sericulture farmers in the region. The main varieties were Qiufeng White Jade. The distribution scope covered 6 districts and towns, mainly concentrated in Zhenze and Taoyuan.
At 9:30 a.m. that day, in the Taihu Snow Sericulture Cultural Park, the staff of the district sericulture gardening station counted the number of silkworm seeds based on the order information of the sericulture farmers in each district and town, and distributed them to each district and town. It is understood that Zhenze Town received a total of 1,386 spring silkworm seeds this year.
Affected by the epidemic this year, the preliminary greening work of Wujiang silkworm seeds was entrusted to Zhenjiang Silkworm Breeding Factory. On the day of seeding, the silkworm seeds were transported back to Wujiang from Zhenjiang under closed-loop management by dedicated personnel and vehicles. “This year we also introduced 50 new silkworm varieties of ‘Suying✖Xiyang’ selected by Suzhou University. This variety has the characteristics of good robustness, excellent cocoon silk quality and fine fiber. It will be trialled and promoted at Taihu Snow Sericulture Base .” introduced Gu Liliu, director of the District Sericulture and Horticulture Station.
This year, a total of 3,050 sericulture households in the region have ordered spring silkworm seeds. Spring silkworm breeding is very important for year-round sericulture production.
