“At present, the mulberry orchard area in Luzhai County, Guangxi is about 180,000 acres, and it can raise more than 500,000 silkworms annually, produce about 20,000 tons of fresh cocoons, and have an output value of more than 900 million yuan.” Recently, silkworm research in Luzhai County Tang Yan, deputy director of the institute, said that the development of the sericulture industry has broadened channels for rural revitalization and increased income for the masses.
Now is the spring silkworm breeding season, and the co-breeding work of silkworms in various towns and villages in Luzhai County is carried out in an orderly manner. At the silkworm co-breeding demonstration site of Liu Jiachun, a villager in Longtian Village, Luzhai Town, young silkworms are crawling densely in the silkworm plaques. Workers are busy unloading, pouring out, chopping and feeding the picked mulberry leaves. Liu Jiachun started planting mulberry and raising silkworms in 1987, and is a well-known “soil expert” in the town. He currently has planted more than 40 acres of mulberry gardens, and has established a demonstration site for co-breeding of young silkworms to focus on cultivating first, second and third instar silkworms. “In addition to meeting the needs of farmers around the town, the ‘silkworm babies’ I bred are also sold to Sipai Town, Zhaisha Town and other places, with a net income of more than 300,000 yuan a year,” Liu Jiachun said.
Sericulture is an important agricultural pillar industry in Luzhai County. At Pan Jianyong’s family farm in Panlong Village, Huangmian Town, Pan Jianyong is making final preparations for the distribution of silkworms. He told reporters that he has received orders from more than 300 sericulture farmers in surrounding villages. Qin Zhuwei, secretary of the Party branch of Panlong Village, said: “The technical requirements for raising silkworms are relatively high and difficult. Now that there are places to raise silkworms together, silkworm farmers prefer to buy silkworms and raise them back.”
In recent years, Luzhai County has taken advantage of the “short, flat and fast” advantages of the silkworm industry to guide the establishment of small silkworm co-breeding demonstration sites, promote the small silkworm co-breeding technology, improve the quality of silkworm seedlings, and promote the high yield of large silkworms. At the same time, we actively carry out the promotion and application of new sericulture technologies, new varieties, and new machinery, implement diversified development and research of sericulture, invite professional and technical personnel to go to various towns and villages to provide technical guidance on mulberry planting and sericulture, and continuously promote the development of the sericulture industry in the county. Empower rural revitalization and increase people’s income.
