“Our embroidery has been very popular in the past two years, but now we are afraid that we will not be able to complete orders on time.” Recently, in an interview, when talking about the sales of embroidery products, Qianyang County Sunbird Crafts Professional Cooperative (hereinafter referred to as “Sun Bird Cooperative”) Chairman Li Huilian said happily.
Qianyang County is an important inheritance site of the national intangible cultural heritage “Western Qin Embroidery”, while Nanzhai Town is the “Hometown of Chinese Folk Art Embroidery”. The reporter saw several embroiderers sitting together in the Sunbird Cooperative at the Intangible Cultural Heritage Transmission Base of Yanjia Village, Nanzhai Town, skillfully flying needles and threads on the fabric. The Dragon Boat Festival is coming soon, and everyone is rushing to make a batch of tiger head sachets.
Li Huilian is the representative inheritor of Xi Qin embroidery, a national intangible cultural heritage project. In 2008, with the support of relevant departments, she established the Sunbird Cooperative, specializing in the production of Qianyang embroidery. Her embroideries are mainly tiger series, including tiger head hats, tiger head pillows, tiger head shoes, etc.
After the Qianyang exclusive stamp “Western Qin Embroidery – Fuhu” was issued this year, the tiger series embroidery designed and created by Li Huilian became very popular in the market. Because this is the Year of the Tiger, tiger head hats and tiger head pillows are in short supply.
Li Huilian said that since September last year, orders for tiger head hats and tiger head pillows have been uninterrupted. In order to rush to make the order, the embroiderers went to work on the third day of the first lunar month to meet the deadline. Everyone worked overtime and was busy until the end of March to complete the work. Last year, Sunbird Cooperative completed more than 10,000 pieces of embroidery, with annual sales exceeding 1 million.
“We mainly sell by order, and there are fixed orders from Shandong, Guangdong and other places every year. Many embroidery products are sold abroad through third-party sales platforms.” Li Huilian told reporters that at present, Sunbird The cooperative has 168 embroiderers, including 8 full-time embroiderers. The embroidery is produced through division of labor and assembly line. The final product is completed by 8 full-time embroiderers, which not only improves production efficiency but also ensures product quality.
The author learned that the embroiderers in the cooperative are all local villagers, and the oldest one is 73 years old. They usually go to the cooperative to do embroidery after finishing their farm work at home. “I come to work when the baby goes to school. When the time comes, I go home to cook for the baby and take care of the house. I can still earn more than 2,000 yuan a month, which is very good.” Zhang Xiaohong, a machinist, said with a smile.
Nowadays, more and more Qianyang women have joined cooperatives after being trained to find jobs at home, increase their income, and “embroider” a beautiful life.
