In 2022, 1.05 million acres of cotton will be planted in Tumushuk City, Xinjiang, a decrease of 40,000 acres from 1.09 million acres in the previous year. Analyzing the reasons for the decrease, one is that the city has increased grain planting area this year; the other is that some local fields with low cotton yields have been replanted with wheat this year.
This year, the local government has vigorously promoted the “dry sowing and wet planting” cotton planting model, which has greatly improved the cotton seedling emergence rate. As of now, the average local cotton emergence rate is about 85%, which is more than 10% higher than the same period last year. In addition, the cotton seedlings sown in the early stage have reached about 8 centimeters, and the cotton seedlings sown later have grown to about 5 centimeters. At present, the main job of cotton farmers is to apply nutrient solution, phosphoric acid, uric acid and other fertilizers to the cotton seedlings that have been wetted by dry sowing. If natural disasters are not considered, seed cotton production this year is expected to reach about 450 kg/mu. Judging from the current emergence situation, the dry sowing and wet sowing cotton planting model has been recognized by the majority of cotton farmers. The key is to strictly follow the guidance of experts at each stage of cotton growth and strengthen field management.
