It is reported that Brazil is trying to expand cotton exports to Bangladesh to increase the share of Brazilian cotton in the international market. A Brazilian business delegation visited Bangladesh from June 12 to 15. Members of the Brazilian Cotton Growers Association and the Brazilian Cotton Exporters Association accompanied the delegation to visit spinning mills in various places and met with the Bangladesh Textile Association, garment manufacturers and exporters. Associations and other stakeholders held talks.
At present, China is the world’s largest cotton importer and the main exporter of Brazilian cotton, accounting for about 30% of Brazilian cotton exports, and Bangladesh accounts for about 10% of Brazilian cotton exports. Bangladesh spends US$3.5-4 billion on imports every year. West African cotton, Indian cotton, Australian cotton and US cotton are Bangladesh’s main choices. In recent years, Brazil has also become one of the sources of cotton imported by Bangladesh.
