The Silkworm Breed Scientific Research and Breeding Center project is undertaken by Jiangsu Silkworm Source Seed Industry Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Silkworm Source Seed Industry”) and is invested and constructed by Haian Urban Construction Development Investment Group Co., Ltd. with a total planned investment of 150 million. Yuan, a newly built silkworm research and breeding center with a construction area of 18,000 square meters. These include a new silkworm and juvenile silkworm co-breeding base, an improved variety protection center, a silkworm germplasm resource gene bank, a scientific research center, an improved breeding protection center, and a high-quality production workshop, etc., with corresponding equipment and facilities. The project will officially start construction in January 2022, and the entire project is expected to be completed and put into use in December this year.
Hai’an City has a long history of sericulture production. It is one of the six major sericulture counties (cities) in Jiangsu Province. It is nationally renowned as the “Hometown of Cocoon Silk” and “Hometown of Lake Mulberry”, and has been rated by the China Silk Association. It is “China’s high-quality silkworm cocoon base”.
In order to lead the breakthrough and high-quality development of the transformation and upgrading of Hai’an’s sericulture industry, Silkworm Seed Industry has introduced the country’s first (third generation) intelligent sericulture machine, far-infrared male and female identification machine and large space temperature and humidity Modern and efficient sericulture advanced equipment such as control systems have made the silkworm breeding process intelligent and refined, and “hard-core” new machines and tools have empowered the traditional sericulture industry to “break out of the cocoon and be reborn”, maintaining a leading position in the province and even the country. status. In the future, Silkworm Seed Industry will introduce 4-5 more sets of intelligent equipment for the sericulture industry, increasing the number of seeds issued from 100,000 to nearly 500,000, further expanding Daian City’s share of the domestic sericulture market.
By accelerating the construction of the project area, the Silkworm Source Seed Industry Base will form an annual production capacity of the company + base of 500,000 first-generation hybrids, 15,000 original seeds, and 3,000 mother seeds, with supporting greening, With cold storage and quality inspection functions, it can achieve the goal of producing 3,000-4,000 first-generation hybrids per capita per year. At the same time, the base will undertake the national laboratory identification of silkworm varieties and the conservation and breeding of basic silkworm varieties, protect more than 40 mulberry tree variety resources, protect more than 20 designated silkworm germplasm resources in Jiangsu Province, and protect more than 30 material silkworm varieties. By then, it will radiate sericulture throughout Hai’an and surrounding areas and even other sericulture areas, driving the development of Hai’an’s sericulture industry from the source.
In recent years, Hai’an Yazhou Modern Agricultural Park has relied on the construction of the Silkworm Source Seed Industry Base to carry out intelligent, large-scale and intensive integrated demonstration of mulberry and sericulture production. Through the application of modern agricultural science and technology achievements, intelligent production equipment and scientific management model, improve the level of silkworm breeding and production, actively explore the path to large-scale, labor-saving sericulture, and accelerate industrial transformation and upgrading. At the same time, by accelerating the research and development and breeding of improved silkworm varieties, we will supply high-quality silkworm seeds to silkworm farmers in the city and increase the coverage of improved varieties; in addition, we will use existing water bodies and mulberry fields to transform and build leisure experience areas, select fruit and mulberry varieties according to local conditions, and actively carry out Leisure fishing, mulberry picking and other activities continue to extend the industrial chain; the goal is to build the Silkworm Source Seed Industry Base into a national first-class sericulture production base integrating production, scientific research, leisure tourism, and cultural education.
