This year Xinjiang’s cotton output is 5.391 million tons, an increase of 262,000 tons from the previous year, and its proportion in the country’s total cotton output continues to increase, reaching 90.2%, a record high. Xinjiang’s total cotton output, unit yield, planting area, and commodity allocation volume have ranked first in the country for 28 consecutive years.
The reporter learned from the Xinjiang Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics that through satellite remote sensing measurements, the department determined that the cotton planting area in Xinjiang in 2022 will be 37.454 million acres, a decrease of 139,000 acres from last year, accounting for 10% of the national cotton planting area. 83.2%; through a sampling survey, it was determined that Xinjiang cotton (lint) yield per unit area is 143.9 kg/mu, an increase of 7.5 kg/mu from last year, which is 11.1 kg/mu higher than the national average cotton yield.
The above data shows that although Xinjiang’s cotton sown area has been slightly reduced this year compared with the previous year, it has achieved an increase in output due to the increase in unit yields, with output increasing by 5% compared with last year. According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, in recent years, cotton production in Xinjiang has shown a development trend of increasing the proportion of large-scale planting and improving the level of intensification, and cotton yields per unit area have continued to increase.
Currently, Xinjiang is my country’s largest and the world’s most important cotton-producing area. Xinjiang’s cotton production accounts for about 20% of the world’s cotton production, and nearly half of Xinjiang’s farmers are engaged in cotton production.
