A few days ago, good news came from the Seed Industry Management Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The new silkworm variety “Yuncan No. 11” bred by the Sericulture and Bee Research Institute of the Yunnan Academy of Agricultural Sciences passed the approval of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetics Committee and obtained the national Level variety approval certificate.
“Yuncan No. 11” is bred from the improved spring variety “Shanhe Introduce robustness genes into improved varieties through other methods. This variety is strong, easy to raise, and has high yield; it is suitable for spring breeding in the Yangtze River Basin and Yellow River Basin. This variety was successfully bred in 2016 and passed on-site evaluation by the Yunnan Provincial Expert Group. The “Yuncan No. 11” variety has outstanding high yield performance, distinctive characteristics and excellent quality. The national variety approval will provide broader market prospects for the promotion and application of new varieties, and will play an important role in promoting the brand creation of Yunnan Province’s cocoon and silk industry, the construction of high-quality raw material cocoon bases, and the “Belt and Road” cooperation initiative.
