The new cotton variety Tahe No. 2 recommended by senior agronomist Yu Ming has aroused strong interest among farmers. Everyone thinks that this new variety is indeed very good, with not only high yield but also good quality. Cotton is one of the main cash crops in Yizhou District, Hami City. In recent years, Hami’s cotton output has ranked among the top three in Xinjiang. However, according to the supply chain structure, the quality of Hami ranks last in Xinjiang, and the price of cotton is low. The economic benefits are not high, so improving cotton quality has become one of Hami’s key tasks.
Li Li, an agronomist at the Hami Agricultural Machinery Technology Extension Service Center, told reporters that in response to this problem, starting in 2021, they will introduce 12 new high-quality cotton varieties from major cotton areas in Xinjiang. We conducted variety screening tests and selected a high-quality, high-yielding cotton variety, Tahe No. 2, through field identification and seeding. This variety has the characteristics of high yield, good quality, good disease resistance, and easy management, and is suitable for planting in the Hami area. This year they plan to develop about 10,000 acres of Tahe No. 2 high-yield demonstration field in Yizhou District.
