This is the first international standard for footwear developed under the leadership of China, and it is also the world’s first universal footwear antibacterial test method.
The ISO16187:2013 “Test Method for Evaluation of Antibacterial Performance of Footwear and Footwear Components” was developed under the auspices of the National Technical Committee for Shoemaking Standardization and the Fujian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, with the participation of experts from the Antibacterial Industry Branch of the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association. Officially released by the Standardization Organization (ISO).
In 2009, this standard project was proposed by the Fujian Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, chaired by the National Shoemaking Standardization Technical Committee, and experts from the Antibacterial Industry Branch of the National Health Industry Enterprise Management Association participated in the formulation. After four years, the standard was officially released in August this year. During this period, 2 comparative tests between international laboratories, 3 ISO/TC216/WG1 “Footwear and Microorganisms” international working group meetings and 2 domestic working group meetings were organized to further improve and perfect the standard method.
China is the world’s largest footwear producer and exporter, as well as the world’s largest footwear consumer market. Leading the formulation of the first global antibacterial test method for footwear, which plays an important role in standardizing the antibacterial footwear market and promoting its healthier and faster development. It is of far-reaching significance for China to further lead and participate in standardization in the international footwear field.
As the quality of life continues to improve, people’s pursuit of shoes is both comfortable and health-conscious. As the body’s sweat glands are concentrated on the feet, it is very easy for bacteria to breed in the relatively closed high-temperature and high-humidity environment of the shoe cavity. Therefore, shoe materials and footwear products with antibacterial functions are becoming more and more popular among consumers.
