The safety of textiles for infants and children has always attracted much attention. According to the Xiamen Dongdu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the mandatory national standard “Safety Technical Specifications for Infant and Children’s Textile Products” (GB31701-2015) is my country’s first mandatory national standard specifically targeting infant and children’s textile products (children’s clothing). standard. This standard is based on GB 18401 “National Basic Safety Technical Specifications for Textile Products” and further improves the safety requirements for textile products for infants and children. In terms of chemical safety requirements, the limit requirements for six plasticizers and two heavy metals, lead and cadmium, have been added; in terms of mechanical safety, the standard has detailed regulations on ropes for different parts of children’s clothing such as the head, neck, shoulders, and waist, requiring infants to No ropes are allowed on the head and neck of clothing for infants and children under 7 years old. The standard also stipulates that textile accessories should have a certain tensile strength and should not have sharp tips and edges. In addition, the standard also adds requirements for combustion performance.
The GB 31701-2015 “Technical Specification for Safety of Textile Products for Infants and Children” standard was officially implemented on June 1, 2016, but this standard gives a two-year implementation transition period (June 1, 2016 to May 2018). March 31st). During the transition period, products produced before June 1, 2016 and meeting the requirements of relevant standards are allowed to continue to be sold on the market. From June 1, 2018, all related products on the market must comply with the requirements of this standard. This standard will help guide manufacturing companies to improve the safety and quality of children’s clothing and protect the health and safety of infants and children.
It is worth noting that GB 31701 applies to infant and children’s textiles sold in my country. Here, the Xiamen Inspection and Quarantine Bureau reminds importers of infant and children’s textiles to keep abreast of my country’s mandatory product standards. Children’s clothing imported and sold in China must comply with the standards.
