India will import some Australian cotton duty-free under ECTA

According to local media in India, Ravi Sam, chairman of the South India Textile Mills Association, recently stated that the Prime Minister of India and the Ministry of Textiles have approved the duty-free import of about 50,000 tons of Australian cotton under the recently signed India-Australia Economic and Trade Agreement (ECTA). All are 28mm and above. He said that this move has greatly alleviated the problem of shortage of high-quality cotton currently faced by India. In addition, it will also help reduce the cost of cotton for textile companies and improve market competitiveness.
