The reporter came to the large silkworm breeding classroom of Huzhou Baobao Sericulture Co., Ltd. in Digang Village, Hefu Town, Nanxun District. The spring silkworms here were already forming cocoons. Different from the traditional raising method, the staff here only need to lay the silkworms on the top of the automatic clustering machine. After gently pressing the button, the clustering machine can automatically place the square clusters one by one according to the requirements. On top of the silkworms, the baby silkworms can cuddle up and make cocoons.
“The machine is fully automatic and saves a lot of space, allowing us to raise more silkworms. This is the first time we have used this machine this year, and it is very good to use!” Huzhou Baobao Sericulture Co., Ltd. Gao Guorong, a company employee, said.
This year’s spring lasts for 87 days, which is conducive to the growth of mulberry leaves and lays the foundation for a bumper harvest of spring silkworms.
The reporter learned from the Huzhou Agricultural Science Center that the city’s mulberry orchard area is more than 140,000 acres, and there are about 70,000 sericulture households. The number of spring silkworms raised is about 33,000, and the estimated output is 62 kilograms. More than 2,000 tons of silkworm cocoons are produced, and the industrial scale ranks second in the province.
The emergence of spring silkworms into clusters is a critical moment. Sericulture experts remind sericulture farmers to do a good job in cluster management and pay attention to maintaining uniform light in the room when they are in clusters.
