Qianjiang District of Chongqing City is one of the areas with severe rocky desertification in the country. This area combines rocky desertification control with the development of the sericulture industry, planting a large number of mulberry trees, and developing sericulture as an industry for farmers to get rid of poverty and become rich, and for rural revitalization.
After more than 10 years of development, the mulberry trees in the rocky desert land in the area have gradually become forests, and the bedrock exposure of the land has dropped from more than 60% to less than 30%. The ecological environment of Qianjiang River has been greatly improved, and the economic and social benefits have been significantly improved, achieving a “win-win” between the sericulture industry and rocky desertification control. At present, the sericulture area in the region reaches 100,000 acres.
In 2021, the output of silkworm cocoons will reach more than 60,000 tons, and the comprehensive income of silkworm farmers will reach 200 million yuan. It has become the largest sericulture planting base in Chongqing, and has been approved by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration as “Chongqing Qianjiang National Sericulture “Biological Industry Base” is currently the only sericulture biological industry base in China.
At the same time, Qianjiang District made full use of high-quality silkworm resources, introduced two leading companies to build a silk industrial park, and processed the cocoons purchased from local farmers into silk quilts, woven silk, Clothing and other products have formed a whole industrial chain integrating mulberry planting, sericulture, silk reeling, silk weaving, silk quilts, and silk clothing. Its products have been sold to the United Kingdom, Japan, Hungary, India and other countries, and have developed a ” Silk Road”.
