Recently, “Wancan No. 6”, a new medium-line spotted silkworm variety for summer and autumn use bred by the Silkworm Germplasm Resource Bank Construction and Innovation Team of the Sericulture Research Institute of the Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, passed the approval of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Committee Approval (Nong 17 New Variety Certificate No. 26), this is the first new silkworm variety in Anhui Province to pass national approval in the past 26 years.
The new variety combination “Wancan No. 6” participated in the National Silkworm Breed Laboratory and Production Identification Test from 2019 to 2020. The main economic traits are as follows: the silkworm pupa rate from the fourth instar is 96.98%, which is better than the control Qiu Feng ; The cocoon layer rate is 22.68%, the relaxation rate is 81.23%, the clarity is 94.00 points, and the cocoon silk length is 1160m.
The new silkworm variety “Wancan No. 6” for summer and autumn use was jointly developed by the Sericulture Research Institute of the Anhui Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Jinzhai County Tianfeng Silkworm Original Breed Farm Co., Ltd., Anhui Lianfeng Silk Making Co., Ltd., and Anhui Ke Xin Cocoon Industry Co., Ltd. jointly cultivates, according to the genetic rules of spot-limited silkworms, using hybridization, continuous backcrossing and systematic selection methods to breed robust medium-line spot-limited varieties, and combines them with conserved and improved Japanese varieties to form a four-way hybrid combination. The new hybrid combination not only has the characteristics of being strong and easy to raise, with excellent silk quality and high breeding coefficient, but also can make use of the mesotype stripe-limited phenotype. According to the silkworm body stripe phenotype in the fifth instar of the larvae, it is convenient, fast and accurate to The identification of males and females eliminates the need for a large amount of concentrated labor to identify males and females in the pupa stage, effectively reducing the labor intensity of silkworm breeding. It not only reduces production costs, but also achieves simplified breeding of silkworms and increases the hybridization rate and quality of silkworms.
“Wancan No. 6” is suitable for raising silkworms in the autumn silkworm period in the Yangtze River Basin and Yellow River Basin silkworm areas.
