”Abstract” is a new discipline that is different from traditional tie-dyeing and industrial printing and dyeing, and has the dual attributes of art and science. Modern tie-dye’s rich and colorful process techniques and advanced scientific production processes highlight the characteristics of sensibility and rationality, and have the openness of marginal interdisciplinary disciplines. It conforms to the craft characteristics and clothing trends of the development of the times, and has good applications. Development prospects.
The modern tie-dye named as artistic dyeing & finishing is a new court which being different from traditional tie-dye and industrial printing & dyeing, it has both art and scientific characteristic. The rich technique and advanced procedure demonstrate its rational and geist characteristic , and has the opening of edge-crossed court, keep the step with the developing technique character and the fashion trend, occur a prospective foreground for use.
”Keywords” Art dyeing and finishing, interdisciplinary disciplines, modern Tie-dyeing, differentiation
KEYWORD: artistic dyeing & finishing, the court cross, modern tie-dye, discrepancy
More and more new fashion designers use modern tie-dye in their design series Avant-garde and creative, modern tie-dye fabrics are also widely used in all seasons fashion clothing due to their unique visual image, unfamiliar texture effects and in-depth interpretation of popular art, thus breaking the long-term monotonous situation where printing and dyeing fabrics are unified in casual clothing. It greatly enriches the design language of casual clothing. Modern tie-dye is gradually becoming the main craft element of Western casual clothing with its unique aesthetic taste and highly mature professional standards.
  1. A new explanation of “art dyeing and finishing”
”Art dyeing and finishing” is a new concept proposed by the three traditional dyeing processes, namely traditional tie dyeing, batik and blue printed cloth and the mechanical industry dyeing and finishing. , is tie-dye, rubbing, transfer wrinkle transfer, improvisationThe general term for emerging handicraft clusters such as spray painting, graffiti painting and color extraction: that is, the use of modern printing and dyeing technology and tie, sew, wrap, dye, spray, paint, brush, carve, and press on various textile fabrics and ready-to-wear Combining various special craftsmanship techniques, we create artistic practice activities that combine new graphics with plane, three-dimensional or monochromatic and multi-color that are different from the aesthetic characteristics of industrial printing and dyeing①. This is a dynamic and open system, which is differentiated from the appearance of modern industrial dyeing and finishing products and is its important design idea. Compared with traditional tie-dyeing and mechanical industry dyeing and finishing, “artistic dyeing and finishing” has a connotation and extension that shows the infiniteness of “when changing with the times”, showing the artistic charm of being compatible with Eastern and Western cultures and inclusive of traditional modern techniques. , reflecting the innovative spirit of tracking contemporary cutting-edge technology and pursuing personalized garment dyeing and finishing processing.
Since a series of techniques of “art dyeing and finishing” are expanded on the basis of tie-dyeing technology, people are used to call it “modern tie-dyeing”.
  2. The craftsmanship of “art dyeing and finishing”
China’s traditional tie-dye, batik and blue printed cloth crafts are known as the “Three Dyeing of National Essence”. Traditional tie-dyeing has remained relatively pure in Dali, Yunnan. It imitates painting drafts on this white local cloth and sews them with needles and threads: such as handmade flat seams, fold seams, willow seams, etc., which are shaping techniques mainly based on lines; Grain-piercing flowers: It is a special pattern of tying methods such as one-eye, four-roll, and Kanto twisting. The hat: dots or leaves white at the flower shape, and uses a high-temperature-resistant PVC film to make flowers. Bandage the shape of the body to prevent dyeing. Batik is in Zigong, Sichuan. Generally, paraffin and beeswax are heat-melted in a certain proportion. Use a spoon, knife and pen to brush the liquid wax on the cloth according to the pattern positioning to form a protective layer, which is produced during dyeing. Anti-dyeing effect and form the flower shape that is characterized by “ice crack”. Blue printed cloth is represented by Nantong, Jiangsu and other places. Its process principle is to use bean powder milk to position and print it on the fabric according to the pattern to form an anti-dyeing layer, and dye it indigo to form a dark white flower. .
They use a unified indigo tone and unique anti-dyeing technique to express their feelings on the rough cloth, and they mostly express the themes from history and folk style. The decorative pattern design is often made of characters, animals and plants that are popular among rural people. The ancient totem deformation is widely used in the design and development of tourism crafts and ethnic clothing products, forming a craft series with Chinese national characteristics, and occupies a certain degree of self-expression of the original tension and fresh visual effects in Japan, Europe and the United States. Traditional market. However, the craftsmanship attribute of “three dyes” determines its industrial nature: first, the aesthetic taste of traditional clothing products is far away from modern life, and the monotonous and primitive craftsmanship and technical means cannot interpret the ever-changing fashion trend; second, the workshop-style The production method cannot adapt to the rhythm of the modern market and the fierce market competition; again, due to the singularity of the dye used and the limitations of the dyeing process, the dyeing quality cannot be guaranteed, and the finished product is poor in taking performance. In the past, there have been attempts to fashion wax and tie-dye in China. The powerful manufacturers are still held at large domestic exhibitions. The show is outfitted, but because the style is too exaggerated and the craftsmanship is far from the trend of the modern market, it does not conform to the lifestyle of modern people, so it is quiet.
However, the unique activity and behavior of the traditional “national treasures and three dyeing” spinning and dyeing technology is a precious treasure of the Chinese nation. Its “national nature” conveys the natural view of “harmony between man and nature” in Eastern culture, which makes it even more powerful The white-collar workers working hard in the restless and noisy modern workplace were moved. In the face of traditional craftsmanship, it is very meaningful to “take the spirit by the leftover appearance” and carefully study its poetic creativity “used the past for the present” for modern design.
Modern tied dye, with its keen insight into the future development trend of the clothing industry and the unique and innovative spirit of daring to say “no” to traditional classics, breaks out of the old path of folk traditional crafts and on the basis of insisting on inheriting the essence of traditional craftsmanship. , integrate modern printing and dyeing science and technology and advanced means, and implement strategic adjustments that enter modern fashion clothing, diversified process performance, industrial production, and international market. The success of modern tie-dyeing technology integrating mainstream fashion clothing and popular textile fabrics in Europe and the United States is the success of transitioning from the “indigo complex” of the traditional “three-dyeing” craft to the “commercial operation” of modern fashion. It is a habitual teaching by artists. Handicraft workshop production, the application of technical aesthetic achievements that combine science and art with modern enterprises and the success of global business strategy transformation.
   3. Original technology of “art dyeing and finishing”
Modern tie-dyeing through standardized design, cross-integrates the unique spinning and dyeing activities of the “three dyeing of national treasures” with modern dyeing and finishing technology, and organizes it into industrialization In terms of production, each piece of ready-made garment needs to be produced by trained “artists” and processed by advanced scientific and technological means. This special craft beauty produced by the passionate and original use of traditional “female red” and “painters” are the adhering to, abandoning and expanding the three major dyeing techniques, and is unable to be rationally cloned by modern printing and dyeing industrial equipment. As a result, it has the following obvious original technical characteristics:
  1. Freely designing garment dyeing graphics
Different from the traditional tie-dyeing technology, modern tie-dyeing, as the core technology of “art dyeing and finishing”, is green and environmentally friendly. , dyeing fastness standards, dyeing production process and control all have the characteristics of a modern dyeing and finishing industry, so it can adapt to the requirements of economic globalization for the clothing industry.
Modern tie-dyeing in the creative design of fabrics and clothing dyeing graphics, does not require industrial printing and dyeing, and has free craftsmanship and extremely efficient. According to market trend orientation and design intention, modern tie-dyeing technology can complete a large number of actual sample plans in a short time and submit them to the buyer for confirmation. After placing an order, it will be put into production quickly and can produce a variety of color schemes and patterns. Form a series of advantages of multiple varieties and small batches. Especially the graphic creation of ready-to-wear dyeing technology, its original nature seems to be the patent of “art dyeing and finishing”. In terms of design theme selection, creative inspiration traceability and the communication of East-West cultural implications, the divergent thinking formed by the integration of modern tie-dye technology and modern graphic composition concepts has greatly broadened the designer’s vision of graphic creation; Eastern and Western cultural conception and formThe understanding of style and the understanding of popular art are the inexhaustible springs of life with inspiration for graphic creation. For passionate designers, these craft attributes of “art dyeing and finishing” have creative freedom like fish leaping with a wide sea and a high sky and birds flying with birds. In terms of graphic design only: the gradient formed by the high-profile processing of gradual dyeing can convey the beautiful feelings of spring warm Jiangnan; the strong visual impact of dyeing and splashing color is like the inkstone of the art master Hai Su, the spring rain of pear blossoms and spring rain, which wet the pine waves of Huangshan Mountain. Sea of clouds; use the abstract texture generated by traditional twisting and dipping, nestling with interlaced lines and magical changing color light levels, like Monet’s impression of “sunrise”; and the “foreign use” originating from the modern Western improvised graffiti, It is suspected to be the rock rhythm of an alternative T-shirt; the historical rings produced by the spray-out water wash away the creation are like the designer’s “this is the dead”! There are countless mature techniques in the “art dyeing and finishing” family such as tying, sculpting, transfer printing, painting, spraying and dyeing. These original dyeing and finishing languages that condense traditional Eastern culture philosophy and Western modern atmosphere give designers the free imagination of “thinking for thousands of years” and the market space for “going around the eight poles”.
  2. Improvised creative three-dimensional texture beauty
The creative “Pleate Please give me pleats” by the famous Japanese fashion designer Miyake Isai, breaking the traditional trend of flat and smooth high-end ready-to-wear. According to different purposes, he designed three new pleats, which are simple, lightweight, easy to maintain and free of iron: SPLASH TWIST and PLEAT PLEASE, which are sought after by people and set off an unprecedented popular revolution.
Integrating into European and American fashion trends and constantly innovating crafts to guide the market is an important topic of “art dyeing and finishing”. After years of exploration, my country’s modern tie-dye technology research and designers have achieved leading domestic and foreign phased results in process practice and theoretical research; in terms of industrial process optimization and fabric application research, they have all surpassed the scope of “lifetime folds” . In terms of three-dimensional texture creation, while trying various wrinkle processes to break through the two-dimensional mode, modern tie-dye emphasizes grafting with plane tie-dye and other related processes. Through the independent development core technology formed by “innovation”, it can adapt to continuous changes. The international market demand for fabrics and clothing.
Two points should be paid attention to after-organization, characterized by the beauty of improvised creative three-dimensional texture: A. Actively select new fabrics. The principle of creating three-dimensional texture aesthetics is to polymerize wrinkles according to the requirements of the process design, and obtain a stable appearance shape through high temperature and high pressure, forming a completely different “alternative” style from general fashion. This craft has high requirements for color, style, texture, feel and process parameters due to the difficulty in controlling the color, style, texture, feel and process parameters, and generally needs to be imported from Italy, Japan and South Korea. Therefore, continuously developing new fancy varieties to adapt to the target market, breaking through the process barriers of imported surface auxiliary materials, and striving to reduce costs are the key to improving the international competitiveness of products. Actively adopt new domestic fabrics and optimize them to test them, and select domestic fabrics with rich texture, complementary functions, good molding memory and high cost-effectiveness.It is necessary to create a scientific and easy-to-retrieve technical parameter database, and to establish an open fabric experimental model that can meet the popularity of the European and American markets. Through repeated experiments, the conclusion was initially summarized: All kinds of knitted warp knitted and woven thickness fabrics containing about 30% of the polyester component can be used after screening, but the selection and creation of wrinkle technology that is suitable for the characteristics of the fabric is Improve the core technology of the process. At present, commonly used domestic fabrics are preferred, such as: modified polyester fabrics, blended interwoven fabrics, new warp knitted fabrics and electric embroidered deep-processed fabrics. Through mass production practice, the molding memory effect is good and the performance is relatively stable.
The localization of imported fabrics and the expansion of diversified fabric components should start from the exploration of the “semantics” of materials, and on the basis of fully expressing the texture of the fabric, enrich the three-dimensional texture vocabulary, create a “new appearance” of fashionable clothing, and improve the use of clothing Comfortable, satisfy the modern people’s spiritual needs for fashion clothing. Therefore, in terms of interpreting modern design concepts, demonstrating China’s original spirit, and exploring the humanistic connotation of products, fabric exploration experiments have gone beyond their own significance.
  B. Continuously innovate process techniques. Continuous innovation in three-dimensional texture forms is the life of wrinkled clothing. Technical innovation is the key to whether the process techniques can adapt to fabric changes.
When “plastic surgery” of the flat and smooth two-dimensional appearance of fabrics and clothing, according to the different fabrics and design styles, modern tie-dyed in-depth immersion, injection, extraction, spraying, painting and other flat techniques and three-dimensional ones are used and are used according to the different fabrics and design styles. The cross-penetration of craft techniques produces countless combination solutions like “kaleidoscope”, which can inspire designers’ improvisation and the “multiplication” effect of craft innovation is often born in this state of “transmitting ideas”. In addition, in combination with the texture of the fabric itself, the thermal-sensitive auxiliary material molding method, spray-painted twisted high-temperature molding method, aggregation and rolling transfer printing molding method and several molding integration method were creatively developed in terms of three-dimensional molding process, which greatly enriched the three-dimensional design language and bring the craftsmanship expressiveness of “art dyeing and finishing” to a new level.
The design idea of improvised creative three-dimensional texture aesthetics, with the selection of new fabrics and continuous innovation of craftsmanship techniques as the two wings. In the “Flying of Pleated” three-dimensional fashion series, the noble, lady-blooded and youthful polyester wire electric of European style elegant velvet extracted and dyed with elegant European style velvet, and the youthful polyester wire electric The graceful embroidery heat-sensitive treatment, the boldness of western denim polyester cotton twist spray and the avant-garde punk suede transfer and the unique artistic charm and trendy leisure market. As an innovative three-dimensional texture process for finishing garments, it accommodates four seasons in season, and has a wide range of fabric adaptation. Today, when the profit margin of conventional products is getting smaller and smaller, its original functions of fabric reconstruction and artistic secondary development of garments are the most important functions for modern industrial dyeing The whole thing is hard to replace.
  3. International fashion trends are popular with the category
The world textile trade pattern has changed. The development of modern logistics and the change in retail industry have reduced the intermediate trade links and greatly shortened the distance between production and final consumption. . Therefore, the fabric is more closely integrated with the final product.
Domestic fashion designers are very envious of foreign designers’ freedom to choose fabrics and often serve the countryThe disconnection between fabric production and clothing design is troubled. “Art dyeing” with the integrated function of fabric and garment dyeing graphic creation, integrates the three creativity of market, fabric and clothing, and melts fabric and clothing design in one furnace, giving designers the freedom to “make color according to the category”. Clothing designers who master modern tie-dye languages can capture popular market messages through market surveys, media exhibitions, fashion shows and the Internet, and can express their creativity in a short time to form market and production, form and content Highly unified. This kind of product that has been called for and invested in the passionate and creative development of designers, like the rhythm of burning and leaping brushstrokes in Vincent Van Gogh’s famous oil painting “Sunflower”, has a breathtaking power and presents a distinctive Artistic personality. The only difference is: “Sunflower” is for the artist’s “me”, but modern tie-dyeing craftsmanship is for the designer’s “they”. From insight into market trends, choosing suitable fabrics to finally completing clothing, fashion designers have become trendsetters in the popular era because they have gained the freedom of art and technology.
Fashion designers who freely use modern tie-dyeing language to create creativity, the spiritually-filled creative space provided by “art dyeing and finishing” always pulls the kite string that flies in the fashionable blue sky.
IV. The craftsmanship charm of “art dyeing and finishing”
  1. Follow the development trend of the times
With the global popularity of the European leisure trend, the connotation and extension of the concept of casual clothing will continue to be enriched and expanded. . The launch of new concepts of clothing such as business leisure, sports leisure, home leisure, and tourism leisure has not only brought unprecedented vitality to the market, but also brought new business opportunities to modern tie-dyeing.
Because the casual and free dress style itself abandons the cloning and indifference of modern industry standardization, it is reflected in the aesthetic value orientation of clothing. People will choose some graphics that are different from the aesthetic commonality of modern textile printing and dyeing, and choose some tie-dyeing and special transfer. Printing, spray painting, carving and embroidery, and making old-fashioned techniques create special styles of clothing to meet your psychological needs. This style that is popular in Europe and the United States is the expression of modern civilization in clothing culture and is rooted in their real life. The country’s peace and stability, democracy and freedom are their endless sources of vitality. With the acceleration of economic globalization and the continued rapid development of my country’s economy, leisure people and domestic casual clothing market have emerged. In line with the development trend of the times, the popularity of casual clothing will also have a huge impact on the structural adjustment of my country’s clothing industry. Because of its strong humanistic color and rich and flexible craftsmanship, “art dyeing and finishing” should have its own accurate positioning in the booming development of the casual clothing industry.
  2. Lead the fashion trend of clothing
There is a big gap between domestic fabrics and developed countries in terms of design creativity and craft innovation, especially after fabric finishing has not been able to meet the needs of medium and high-end clothing. Fabrics are low-end and homogenized. At present, the lack of originality of domestic fabrics and a shallow understanding of international popular mechanisms have become the “supporting designers’ genius creation and the internationalization of my country’s clothing brands”Bottleneck”.
While modern tie dyeing fully utilizes its comparative advantages, it relies on the support of modern printing and dyeing technology and equipment, it is widely used in silk, cotton, wool, linen, tensil, soybean fiber, nitrile, brocade, and polyester , adhesive and other natural, chemical fibers or blended, interwoven fabrics and ready-to-wear, completely integrated into the modern casual clothing trend. At the same time, modern tie-dye can quickly feedback based on new market trends and use the Internet to obtain global information. Use computer-aided design systems to perform new color schemes and graphic creativity; use modern tie-dye stranding, pleating, immersion, injecting, painting, spraying, pulling, brushing and other unique craft techniques, and draw on graphic composition and modern painting art expression techniques to carry out fabrics “Plastic surgery reconstruction” and artistic reproduction create “meaningful forms, often with relief-like texture, color-splashing freehand effect and superb abstract composition, making foreign high-end textile printing and dyed fabrics imitate and show unique and compatible The artistic personality of Eastern and Western cultures. “Art dyeing and finishing” has gained the “vote” of the world’s clothing trends with its unique original craft language.
  3. Meet the “personality” needs of taking
According to the famous design needs, people’s physiological and psychological needs are arranged in the bottom to the top: Physiological needs category: Physiological needs – safety needs, psychological needs: social needs – self-esteem needs – self-expression needs. The following requirements are basic, while the above requirements are personalized and advanced. The flexible and changeable craftsmanship of modern tie-dye is more suitable for people’s pursuit of “personality” in dress. In order to satisfy the consumption psychology of modern people’s self-expression and innovation, designers explore new artistic “language” when they are creative, and use unconventional dyeing and finishing methods to design various special texture effects. The “craftsmanship revival” of traditional handicraft techniques is also It is born in time. During production, the new flower-treading process often requires thousands of people to operate it at the same time. The labor cost consumed by this unique spinning and dyeing activity is the same as the technical barriers of “art dyeing and finishing”, which are Europe, the United States, Japan, etc. Developed countries cannot afford and make breakthroughs. At the same time, the modern tie-dye industry with the dual characteristics of labor-intensive and dyeing and finishing industrialization not only gives us the advantages of technical barriers and cost advantages, but also promotes regional economic prosperity, alleviates the severe employment situation in cities, and provides workers with opportunities to go to work again. It has made great contributions to society in absorbing surplus rural labor and realizing the migration of agricultural economy to industrial economy. Therefore, from the perspective of sociology and economics, “art dyeing and finishing” also shows charming craftsmanship charm.
  5. Prospects of “art dyeing and finishing”
  1. Actively explore broad potential market
The “art dyeing and finishing” language of art and science to adapt to the lifestyle of modern people, Understand the life attitude of modern people and respond to the call of the new international textile fashion. On this basis, it has successfully developed traditional crafts such as tie-dyeing into a modern craft industry that can greatly meet the personal needs of modern people such as fashionable clothing, fabric finishing and other pursuits of excellent quality. The connotation and extension of the process show a dynamic and open trend.
According to incomplete statistics, at the world’s largest “CPD” Professional Clothing Expo in Dusseldorf, Germany and the Hong Kong International Fashion Festival in China, the proportion of casual style clothing has exceeded half; all domestic clothing exhibitions and booths, regardless of scale, are all domestic clothing exhibitions and booths, regardless of size. It seems that modern tie-dyed and stylish expressions can be seen everywhere. However, compared with developed countries such as Europe, the United States, and Japan, the industrialization process of modern tie-dye fabrics and clothing in my country is relatively lagging, which may be related to the degree of attention paid by Chinese designers to modern tie-dye and some misunderstandings. In fact, in addition to the outstanding performance of graphic creativity, modern tie-dyeing technology is no less than domestic and foreign in terms of green environmental protection and internationalization of color fastness standards or the synchronous follow-up of the popular trends of European and American textile and clothing markets. Requirements for modern textile printing and dyeing technology. Therefore, actively exploring the potential domestic market is the direction of the development of modern tie-dyeing industry.
  2. Continuously create unique “meaningful forms”
Modern tie-dyeing positioning for “art dyeing” for fashionable clothing requires us to deeply explore the aesthetic value of Western modern art and avant-garde pop art to clothing. The impact of formation.
The proposition that “art is a meaningful form” proposed by the famous British visual art critic Clive Bell (1881-1966), in “Art” published at the beginning of this century, has become a modern Western aesthetics in Western aesthetics. A popular catchphrase and is recognized as the pillar of modernist art theory. As an important representation of modern lifestyle, the region that guides the world trends has always been Europe and the United States, especially Europe. Therefore, while domestic independent research and development of European and American casual clothing and tidying up high-tech technologies, it is especially necessary to integrate with Western culture in terms of design concepts. The big difference between modern tie-dye and industrial printing and dyeing is that the image is abstract and the freehand painting is characterized by the handicrafts of “female red” and “painters”. The shape elements such as dots, lines, and surfaces are unique in addition to the “spiritual portrayal”. The form is beautiful and intriguing. Under the process design specifications, different fabrics or garments entering the production process produce capillary effects, cross-linking effects, anti-dyeing effects and redox effects of physical properties by encountering dyes, coatings, and additives, so as to produce dyeing effects and redox effects of physical properties, etc. The graphics “wonderfulness lies in the fact that they are similar and not similar” brings the freehand painting of the East and the abstract meaning of the West, which is extremely gorgeous and beautiful. This flowing and changing lines, colors and mutually composed formal relationship is consistent with the aesthetic value orientation of Western modern art.
  3. Use differentiation strategies to enter mainstream Western markets:
The famous American economist Michael Porter proposed in his book “Competitive Advantage” that the two competitive advantages that a company may have are cost advantages and Product differences. Most traditional enterprises in my country are trying to control their own costs, ignoring the advantages of different products. As a result, many industries and production capacity currently exceed market capacity and exceed market consumption demand, while the product structure is unreasonable and lacks market competitiveness⑤ .
Modern tie-dyeing industry towards the future should be market-orientedStandards, technology are the pioneers, culture is the foundation, product development actively implements differentiated strategies, product style actively distances from conventional spinning and dyeing, and forms its own unique competitive advantage. At the same time, modern tie-dye should consciously converge with international spinning and dyeing standards in using information technology to transform traditional industries, improve knowledge economy management platforms, smear modern corporate culture concepts, create modern tie-dyeing technology brands and implement green environmental protection strategies, so that the industry can be made consciously Enter a healthy track of virtuous circle and sustainable development. Enterprise operations also need to integrate into the European and American clothing trend circle with a high degree of informatization, and to fully introduce network management in terms of business methods, financial management, production planning, design concepts, process research and development, and absorb and release information flow. In the middle, hold the “invisible hand” of the market.
