According to reports, American scientists showed people the research results of obtaining synthetic spider silk from bacteria and processing it. By standardizing an important process called “post-textile”, they creatively reformed the purification process of synthetic spider silk and provided a basis for production. and laid the foundation for the application of high-strength synthetic spider silk.

Scientists say that during the post-spinning process, the synthetic spider silk molecules are stretched using a mechanically actuated device, which increases the fiber’s strength. The study found that mechanical stretching makes the synthetic spider silk very uniform, avoiding errors that occur in the artificial spinning process. The result is that the synthetic spider silk is more similar to the natural spider silk produced by female black widow spiders than scientists expected.

In the laboratory, mechanically actuated devices were able to reliably stretch synthetic spider silk fibers to specific lengths, mimicking the spider’s natural post-weaving skills. The researchers said that before the stretching process, the synthetic fibers had significant differences in mechanical characteristics, and the differences were significantly reduced after the stretching process.

It is reported that synthetic spider silk has potential for a variety of industrial applications. Of particular interest is the high strength of black widow spider silk, with analysis showing it is comparable in strength to Kevlar fiber while being lighter and less dense. If synthetic silk with the mechanical properties of spider silk can be mass-produced, it could potentially replace Kevlar, carbon fiber and steel. Synthetic spider silk will have a huge impact on the production of certain products, including body armor, aircraft fuselages and sutures for surgical incisions.
