The Ebola epidemic in Africa has not yet completely ended, and another outbreak of Zika virus, a mosquito-borne virus, has emerged in the Americas. Since May 2015, Brazil has experienced a large-scale Zika virus infection epidemic. According to statistics from the World Health Organization at the end of January, more than 30 countries and regions in the Americas and Africa have reported the spread of Zika virus, which is spreading rapidly.

What is Zika Virus?

Zika was originally the name of a jungle in southern Uganda, Africa. Scientists had already isolated this virus from a macaque monkey living in that jungle. It was called Zika virus. In 1952, it was discovered in Uganda. The virus was isolated from humans in Japan and Tanzania. In 1968, human cases of Zika virus infection were discovered in Nigeria, and gradually spread to Southeast Asia, Western Pacific island countries and other regions.

The first documented outbreak of Zika virus disease occurred in the Micronesian Islands in the Western Pacific in 2007, with 185 cases reported. Beginning in October 2013, an outbreak of Zika virus also occurred in French Polynesia, with approximately tens of thousands of cases. In May 2015, Brazil discovered its first local infection case, and the epidemic continued to ferment until a large-scale epidemic occurred. As of January 2016, there is evidence of Zika virus transmission in at least 45 countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

According to Wang Linghang of the Infectious Disease Diagnosis, Treatment and Research Center of Beijing Ditan Hospital, the countries where local residents are currently infected are mainly Latin America south of the United States, including Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Honduras, French Guiana, Venezuela, Barbados, Bolivia, and Dominica. wait.

What are the clinical manifestations?

According to Wang Linghang from the Infectious Disease Diagnosis, Treatment and Research Center of Beijing Ditan Hospital, there are four main types of symptoms:

1. Fever, but Zika virus rarely causes high fever, usually low-grade fever, between 37.5 degrees and 38.5 degrees.

2. Maculopapular rash. A type of rash. There is a reddish base of the skin around the papules.

3. Joint pain, mainly in small joints like hands and feet.

4. Non-suppurative conjunctivitis, that is, there is congestion but little secretion.

If you have a report of traveling to South America and have two or more symptoms within 3-12 days, you can be suspected of being infected with the Zika virus.

Other symptoms of infection include myalgia, headache, orbital pain, weakness; abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, mucosal ulcers, and skin itching.

How to prevent Zika?

There is only one key word to prevent “Zika”: mosquito prevention. WHO said environmental mosquito control and personal protection are “strongly encouraged”.

Take Brazil as an example. In February this year, its government launched a nationwide “Zika-free” mosquito control mobilization campaign. Spraying insecticides and eliminating mosquito breeding sites in family homes are the key to the mosquito control campaign. This can significantly reduce mosquitoes. . The international community has also come up with clever strategies to eliminate mosquitoes. The International Atomic Energy Agency has provided Brazil with small irradiation devices that use nuclear technology to “sterilize” mosquitoes to suppress mosquito vectors.

For individuals, effective measures to eliminate mosquitoes are to wear clothing that exposes as little skin as possible, close doors and windows, use physical barriers such as screens to prevent mosquitoes, and use mosquito nets when sleeping.

At this year’s Rio Olympics, in addition to the competition for gold and silver, there is another “Made in China” item that is popular. This is the anti-mosquito weapon that helps Chinese athletes block the Zika virus and is called a “national magic weapon” by foreign media: mosquito nets. At present, the production of mosquito nets and mosquito net mesh is mainly concentrated in Asian countries such as China, Bangladesh, India, and Vietnam, as well as some American countries. my country’s mosquito net mesh industry bases are mainly distributed in strong textile provinces such as Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, and Guangdong. Product exports and domestic sales are strong. Among them, mosquito repellent nets are mainly exported to various African countries.

In addition, the relevant quality requirements standard for mosquito net products in my country is FZ/T 62014-2009 “Mosquito Nets”, which specifies product performance requirements for mosquito net mesh fabrics into intrinsic quality and appearance quality. Intrinsic quality includes mesh density, fiber content deviation, bursting strength.Seam strength, washing dimensional change rate, color fastness, etc.; appearance quality includes specification size deviation rate, color difference, appearance defects, sewing quality, etc. The quality requirements put forward by WHO for long-lasting anti-mosquito net fabrics include mesh density, bursting strength, seam strength, washable dimensional stability and storage resistance. Comparing the two, there are certain differences, as shown in the figure below.

In the Olympic Games, in addition to the “Made in China” anti-mosquito nets, there is also a functional fabric that has attracted much attention – anti-mosquito clothing. What deserves attention is that golf has returned to the Olympic family after 112 years! In this Olympic competition, the anti-mosquito-treated uniforms of Korean contestants are still fresh in people’s minds; the anti-mosquito finishing agent used in the competition uniforms is provided by the Korean NBIO company, which is the product of Korean NBIO in China. General agent.

Why is this golf anti-mosquito competition clothing such a popular golf course? It is understood that the raw material of this anti-mosquito finishing agent is natural Permethrin extracted from plants: a highly efficient and low-toxic insecticide, used to prevent and control health pests and livestock pests. The insecticidal effect is strong and very low. The concentration can cause poisoning and death of pests), and it is an environmentally friendly substance that is harmless to the human body.

Multi-functional anti-mosquito finishing

In addition to mosquitoes, in the face of ubiquitous bacteria and mites, antibacterial and anti-mite prevention is also urgent! In today’s era of product homogeneity, assuming the price is the same, products incorporating antibacterial, anti-mite, and anti-mosquito technologies are more comfortable, breathable, high-quality, healthy, and have a wonderful experience. Consumers prefer such differences. products, and are willing to pay for the functionality of the product. To this end, Deco Nano has launched a multi-functional anti-mosquito finishing agent Texnology® FCK400. This product uses nano-microcapsule technology to give the fabric a good and long-lasting effect on mosquitoes, flies and other pests, with efficient, rapid repelling and contact killing effects; it can effectively prevent mosquito bites and greatly reduce the possibility of mosquito-borne diseases; at the same time, It also has the effect of preventing bacterial diseases and avoiding dust mites (preventing allergic skin, preventing asthma, and preventing rhinitis).

Extension

If you want to know more about antibacterial, anti-mite, anti-mosquito finishing, etc., or if you want to communicate face-to-face on technical issues such as anti-bacterial, anti-mite, anti-mosquito, etc., we can make an appointment on October 11-13, 2016 “China International Textile Fabrics and Accessories (Autumn and Winter) Expo” held in Shanghai. By then, we are looking forward to your arrival at the “E-95” booth! –.
