Standards for outdoor textiles

There are many types of outdoor functional textiles, common ones include: jackets, mountaineering jackets, sun protection clothing, ski clothing, sun hats, ski hats, ski socks, gloves, backpacks, waist bags, headscarves, sleeping bags, tents, etc.

For the testing of these outdoor functional textiles, the relevant national standards and industry standards mainly include:

GB/T 32614-2016 “Outdoor Sportswear Jackets”

FZ/T 81007-2012 “Single and sandwich clothing”

FZ/T 81008—2011 “Jacket”

FZ/T 73020—2012 “Knitted Casual Clothing”

GB/T 22853-2009 “Knitted Sportswear”

GB/T 22849-2014 “Knitted T-shirts”

GB/T 26385-2011 “Knitted patchwork clothing”

GB/T 21295-2014 “Technical Requirements for Physical and Chemical Properties of Clothing”

GB/T 33272-2016 “Fabrics for Awnings and Camping Tents”

GB/T 27735-2011 “Camping Tent”

QB/T 1584-2005 “Leather Gloves for Daily Use”

QB/T 1616—2005 “Sports Gloves”

FZ/T 73001—2008 “Socks”

FZ/T73037—2010 “Knitted Sports Socks”

FZ/T 73054—2015 “Thermal Socks”

FZ/T 24011-2010 “Cashmere Woven Scarves and Shawls”

FZ/T 73042-2011 “Knitted scarves and shawls”

QB/T 2954-2008 “Fur Scarfs and Fur Shawls”

QB/T 1333-2010 “Backpack”

QB/ T 4582-2013 “Picnic Bag”, etc.

In addition, some major domestic and foreign brand companies have formulated a series of related corporate standards based on the characteristics of their products, such as TOREAD, ANTA, FILA, COLUMBIA, SKECHERS, KARRIMOR, etc.

Indicators for outdoor functional textiles?

(1) Safety indicators, including formaldehyde content, pH value, odor, decomposable carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes, etc.;

(2) Durability indicators, mainly including pilling, wear resistance, tearing strength, bursting strength, crotch seam strength, etc.;

(3) Color fastness index, which mainly assesses the finished fabric’s color fastness to soaping (discoloration, staining), splicing inter-dye fastness (staining), perspiration color fastness (discoloration, staining), and friction resistance Color fastness (dry rubbing, wet rubbing), color fastness to washing (discoloration, staining), color fastness to light (dark, light color);

(4) Functional technical indicators, including thermal insulation performance, waterproof, antifouling, windproof, breathable, moisture permeable, quick-drying performance, UV protection, antibacterial and hygienic performance, etc.

Difficulty in detection?

The functional quality of outdoor sportswear depends not only on the functionality of the fabric itself, but also on many factors such as the processing technology and structure of the clothing.

For example, the use of full or semi-glued fabric processing technology directly affects the waterproof performance of clothing. In addition, different cutting structures also have a certain impact on the waterproof performance of clothing. Therefore, just testing the fabric of the product cannot fully reflect the functionality of outdoor sportswear.

The solution is to take samples from the seam tape of the finished product and conduct a hydrostatic pressure test. The measured data can more objectively and truly reflect the actual waterproofing effect of the garment.

In addition, for certain functional testing of textiles, domestic standards are still lacking compared with foreign standards and need to be filled.

For example, the only national standard for UV protection performance testing is GB/T 18830-2009 “Evaluation of UV protection performance of textiles”, while overseas there are: AATCC 183-2010 “Transmission or blocking performance of ultraviolet radiation through fabrics”, ASTM D 6603-2012 “Specification for Labeling of UV-Protective Fabrics”, AS/NZS 4399-1996 “Evaluation and Classification of Sun Protection of Clothing”, BS EN 13758-1:2002 “Solar UV Protection Performance of Textiles Part 1: Test Methods for Outerwear Fabrics”, etc. .
